District News - May 2017
BEAVER scouts from across the district proved they were a match for any celebrity when they took on a series of challenges.
They showed they ‘could get out of here’ as they descended on Barrwood for an action packed afternoon of fun.
The sun was shining down on the campsite for the inaugural, I’m a Beaver Scout Get Me Out of Here, event.
Colonies from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 27th, 40th, 62nd and 89th joined in the non-stop action as they tackled seven activities.
And they were helped by a willing band of leaders, explorers, scouts and parents.
As well facing the Bush Tucker Trial, a water challenge and the chance to splat a rat the daredevil youngsters took on the bouncy castle, an army assault course cargo net and had a Nerf gun battle with their pals.
They also pulled on their hard hats and went underground to find glowing stars along Barrwood’s caving system. One youngster, his face glowing, said: “It was scary to start but I want to keep going in.”
Event organiser Elissa Dick, assistant district commissioner (Beaver Scouts), said: “We were so lucky to have such a wonderfully sunny day.
“All the children had a great time.
“My thanks go to the leaders and parents whose hard work made it such success.”
The afternoon ended with a campfire and a series of rowdy songs which perfectly captured the good spirits of the event.
